Listening for the Bass in Chopin

While the melody is the focus in Chopin’s pieces, Vladimir Feltsman often remarked that he isn’t hearing the bass notes when students played for him. Listening for a nice, deep and deliberate bass tone adds a new dimension to this and other Romantic piano repertoire and makes for a fuller sonority. Pictured is Chopin’s Nocturne Op. 62, No. 2.
